Winter style edit 2016

We are well into Winter and the days are definitely cooler a-n-d windier a-n-d wetter a-n-d darker (insert sigh). The need to rug up and stay warm is top priority and H+C 2016 Winter style edit has you covered from head to toe, literally. Think cosy chunky knits, turtlenecks, tunics, knee high boots, long cardigans in an array of colours and textures…

Colours

Traditional winter colours like black, charcoal and grey are still favourites this Winter. They provide great coverage and can be teamed with a multitude of shades, so make a perfect companion for layering. These colours work best as the outer layer, pieces such as jackets and coats, jumpers and cardigans, pants or skirts.

Additional hues that appear to have transitioned from autumn well this season include burgundy, tan and navy. These colours make great accent pieces, such as blouses, fine knits, shoes and accessories. These hues are very demure and elegant, providing a subtle pop of colour to your wardrobe this Winter.

Textures

Textures play a large part in the aesthetics of Winter dressing, adding interest to the layers inherent and necessary for the season. I’m personally loving suede at the moment and have noticed the increase of its use in shoes and bags this season (just remember to waterproof all your suede accessories).

Other popular textures this Winter include felt, cashmere, mohair, alpaca, cowhide and of course wool in a variety of widths – perfect for those chunky knits!

The 3 pieces you should invest in

ONE // The Long Cardigan

The long cardigan would have to be my number one, go to piece for Winter. I have a few in different colours and textures. They are the perfect layering piece and are so cosy and comfortable. They also provide longevity to pieces from other seasons, think a spring dress with a long cardigan (just add tights and boots).

TWO // Knit dress

If you are like me and prefer to wear skirts and dresses, the knit dress is a must. It provides warmth and coverage, looks stylish and can be dressed up and down easily i.e sneakers for day, pumps for night. This makes it the perfect Winter dress to go from work to drinks on a Friday night. The knit dress comes in a variety of styles to suit everyone, from turtleneck to v-neck to a round neck and the skirt can be A-line or flared.

THREE // Boots

Every girl needs a fabulous pair of boots for Winter. Ankle boots are the most practical and can be worn with most styles including dresses, skirts and pants. However if you can pull of the ‘over the knee boot’ look, I say go for it. Not only will they keep you warm, there is something sensual and sexy about a tall boot. The one’s pictured above have a small heel making them perfect for day and night.
