14 days to Wellness – day eight
There are many misconceptions about lifting weights. Fear of getting too big or bulky, that it is bad for your joints or that only certain people can do it. The truth is lifting weights or resistance training keeps your body lean, healthy and strong. Lifting weights burns more calories during and after training than cardiovascular exercise. Over time, as your lean muscle mass increases your body uses calories more efficiently. Therefore, the more lean muscle mass you have the more calories you will burn. Lifting weights increases energy, reduces stress and improves sleep. It also reduces your risk of heart disease and osteoporosis. Lifting weights like most exercise builds confidence, as you see changes in your body, ability and strength, your mindset will change for the positive too. So what are you waiting for? Incorporate 2 – 3, 30min weight training sessions into your week and reap the rewards.
